Today was a very long day. Dr. Gordon wanted to do some more tests on me to try figure out what's wrong with my blood, so today I had to be back at the hospital at 8am. Mommy brought me to a room where a nice lady wanted to take a look at my kidneys, so she did something called a renal ultrasound. I'm not sure how it all works, but she put some gooey stuff on my belly and rolled some kind of magic wand all over it that took pictures of my insides. It didn't bother me much, except I wanted to know where the TV was like the last place I was at. Apparently they didn't have one in this room.
Next we headed on over to a different part of the hospital called 'Surgery' where we waited for a bit. Eventually they took us back into my own room and I had to get changed into one of those silly hospital dresses. It was comfy enough, but a little drafty too. I didn't mind so much, because this room had a TV and I got to watch cartoons for a bit. After a while, Daddy surprised us by getting off work to come down and be with us. I was so happy to see him. Eventually the nurses gave me some medicine to relax me a bit and then they wheeled me away. Mommy and Daddy waved goodbye as the nurses wheeled me out of the room. I was a little nervous about all this, but the nurses took really good care of me.
The next thing I remember, I was waking up in an entirely different room and I felt a bit woozy. Plus, I had all kinds of tubes and wires attached to me and some crazy machine was right behind me making all kinds of beeping noises. The nurses all gathered around me to see how I was doing and when I finally got my wits about me, I was my usual charming self. I was having a good old time back there entertaining everyone for a while and then Mommy and Daddy got to come back and join me. I was SO hungry. I hadn't been allowed to eat since dinner, the night before, and they still weren't letting me eat yet. Eventually, the nurses said it was OK, and I downed several apple juices and every snack Mommy brought with her.
Just when I thought the whole ordeal was finally over, I was told we couldn't leave yet because I was getting a transfusion. Sure enough, I looked down and one of those tubes was attached to my arm and had bright red blood flowing through it. Been there done that, so I knew we'd be there anothe three hours or so. That's OK though, I needed one and I was looking forward to feeling better after it was all done. Thank you to the very nice lady from our church who donated her blood for me.
Finally, some time after 6pm the transfusion was done and we got to wrap things up and head home. It was about that time that I started to realize that while I was asleep, Dr. Gordon did a bone marrow biopsy on each side of my pelvis. He wanted to see what my bone marrow was still working since I don't seem to be making blood on my own. Looks like I'm going to be pretty sore for a few days.
