Today was something they call Mother's Day. It's a day when everyone honors their mothers. Boy am I thankful for mine. We've been through a lot together in just my first year. The long nights in the hospital, all the doctor visits, the long transfusions that seem to take forever, taking regular care of my chest tube, and all the trips back and forth to physical therapy,. And that doesn't even include all the normal Mommy stuff she does. I don't know where I'd be without her. Thank you Mama for all that you do for me.

I've had to work a little harder on my physical abilities up to this point, probably because of some of my medical problems. But Miss Marie has been working with me every week to help me figure out my skills, as they say. Plus Mama and Dada work with me all the time. Today I finally got the hang of the whole crawling thing. I'm not the fastest crawler, and I still flop on my face every once in a while, but I'm getting around on my own now. What freedom! Now I can explore and get into stuff. I like keeping Mama and Dada on their toes. Watch out Biz! (She's one of our cats.) I'm gonna catch you one of these days!

Here's just a few more random things I've been up to this month. I like to have fun, as you can tell from these pictures. Indoors, outdoors, helmet, or no helmet, roaming free or stuck in my high chair. It's all good.

Boy do I love to read. Well, not exactly read yet, but look at books. Mama and Dada have been reading to me as long as I can remember. I love to look at the pictures. I can even tell you what some of the pictures are. I guess that's reading, kinda sorta.

Exactly one year ago on this very day, I was born. What a first year it has been. Never a dull moment, that's for sure. Mama said we're going to have a big birthday party on the weekend when we go to visit family so today we just had a small celebration. Plus, I wasn't feeling very well today because my blood is really low. I'll be getting another transfusion in a couple days so I should be feeling better for my birthday party. What a nice present that will be.

Boy was I glad to get this transfusion. My hemoglobin was pretty low and I wasn't feeling very good at all on my birthday. This running out of blood thing is getting really old. I just want to be a normal happy baby and not have to go through this stuff. Oh well, not much I can do about it. At least I know Mama and Dada will always be here looking out for me. I hear them say sometimes that God has a reason for it all, but we don't always get to know what it is and that all we can do is trust Him. I'll buy that. He has taken good care of me so far.

  • 7 My First Birthday Party 5 Photos | 0 Comments

This morning we got up and drove down to spend the weekend with family. I was so excited because today was my birthday party. I didn't even know what it was, but it sounded like fun because all my family was coming over to Nana's house to be with me. They even brought presents! But before I could get into the presents, Mama sat me down at the table, put a pink and white cake in front of me and everybody gathered around and sang to me. What a treat! Although I didn't know what to make of the cake. It was sticky and mushy. I didn't want to touch it let alone eat it. But then Dada stuck my finger in it. That was all it took. After that, cake started getting into everything. They nearly had to hose me down before I could open my gifts. Before long I was all cleaned up and I got to open all my wonderful presents. What a fun day it was. I think we should do this again next weekend.
